(36) pp. Swedish arts journal, reproducing orig. and previously published texts on the visual and literary arts with an emphasis on surrealism, incl. essays in trans. by Picasso [from "Formes" (1930)] and J. Frois-Wittmann [from "Minotaure" (1933)], and those by Swedish authors Adolph Törneros, Arne Häggqvist, Åkesson, and Nils Afzelius, with poems by Eliot, Eluard, and Lagerkvist, contributor bios and table of contents, richly illus. with 2 orig. woodcuts, numerous reproductions, and a unique collage, by artists incl. Åkesson, Adja Yunkers, Egøn Möller-Nielsen, Bror Hjorth et al. and an orig. children's drawing, with captions beneath, below or on tissue. All text and images tipped-in to various colored rag papers, some discoloration to loose guard leaf, minor wrinkling at text edges from orig. glue, otherwise fine. Folio. Illus. wrpps., string-bound, cover darkened at extremities with minor fraying, housed in recent boards portfolio. Stockholm (Åkesson) 1941. From an edition of 250.
The portfolio is an extremely rare and unusual publication, a collaboration between Yunkers, the important abstract painter and printmaker, and Åkesson, an innovative dancer and choreographer who experimented with nonrepresentational dance, often performing without music. Although the foreword alleges the possibility of additional issues, we find no record of them. As of April 2018, WorldCat locates only one copy of the journal, in Sweden.
