Ultra is one of the most important avant-garde journals to have been published in Scandinavia. In the first issue, the editors wrote that in publishing Ultra, their goal was to create a forum for "aesthetic debate in order to liberate art", and to help move Scandinavia forward with a wave of fundamentally new art in the spheres of painting, music, theater, and dance. Contributors to Ultra include writers, poets, and critics Eino Palola, Elmer Diktonius, Edith Södergran, Ormi Arp, Gunnar Björling, Rabbe Enckell, Uuno Kailas, Viljo Kojo, and Katri Vala, and artist Uuno Eskola. Scarce in United States institutions.
