Early Soviet Museum Practices

Dekabristy Dmitrovskogo uezda, 1825–1925 [The Decembrists of the Dmitrov uezd, 1825–1925].

Dmitrov: Izdanie muzeia Dmitrovskogo Uezda, 1925. Small octavo (17 × 13 cm). Original printed wrappers; 82 pp. Owner inscription to front wrapper and title page. Very good.

Dedicated to the centenary of the “Decembrist”, anti-monarchist uprising of the 19th century, this publication of the History Museum of Dmitrov (just north of Moscow) collects three articles about the uprising and its connection to the city of Dmitrov. The museum was founded shortly after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1919 in a former Theological Seminary. The publication is typical of early Soviet museum building practices. The collection of information about the popular uprisings and revolutions such as the Decembrist Uprising of 1825 and the 1905 Revolution were key research and collection topics. During WWII German forces occupied the building of the museum and the majority of the collection was destroyed, making this item and other pre-war publications of the museum rare. As of June 2020, not in KVK and OCLC.
