First edition outside of Russia. A Russian émigré publication of a classic textbook on ancient history written by the poet, historian, and personal tutor of the Russian royal family, Konstantin Ivanov (1858–1919). Author of dozens of textbooks on ancient and medieval history, starting in 1908 Ivanov taught history and geography to the children of Nicholas II of Russia. This textbook was first published in 1899 with the last, thirteenth edition published in Russia in 1917 (with this copy based on the eigth edition). Likely the first printing outside of Russia this item is “A publication of the educational section of the society for Russia’s rebirth,” an organization founded by the Russian émigrés in China fleeing the Bolshevik Revolution. As of July 2020, KVK and OCLC show only three copies.
