The first five of six total issues printed of the small-press poetry journal and review from the important 1970s Bay Area poetry scene, edited by J. Rutherford Williams, issues ranging from 93-163 pp., with written and artistic contributions from Clifford Burke, Beverly Dahlen, Eugene Ruggles, David Meltzer, David Gitin, Hale Thatcher, Lewis MacAdams, Diane di Prima, Mary Wagner, Grant Fisher, Julia Vose, Stephen Vincent, Thom Gunn, Judi Diamondstone, Andrei Codrescu, William Talcott, David Meltzer, Jack Hirschman, John Brandi, Gordon Craig, Ken Irby, Richard Gates, Robert Bly, Rainer Maria Rilke, Michael Myers, Bruce Conner, Katherine Anne Dawson, Carla Cooper, Gerard Malanga, Charles Henri Ford, and many others. Each issue has its own focus or subtitle - the first issue is subtitled The First Crossing, and the second is subtitled These Here States. Issue no. 3 is devoted to the "elucidation of the poetic fantasies of John Brandi, David Meltzer and Jack Hirschman." Issue 4 is subtitled "The White Whale" and is dedicated to Charles Henri Ford, and is "a post-surrealist issue", while issue 5 is subtitled "Aesthetic Madness" and is an "Image Extremist issue" guest-edited by William Talcott.
