A very rare complete run in only 4 issues of the short-lived French art critical review, edited and with critical contributions by Gérald Gassiot-Talabot, Jean-Clarence Lambert, Jean-Jacques Lévêque, Raoul-Jean Moulin, José Pierre, Pierre Restany, and Michel Courtois. Nos. 1 and 4 illustrated from photographs, nos. 2 and 3 not illustrated. Various sizes, no. 1 folded tabloid-style, nos. 2 and 3 8vos., no. 4 oblong 4to. Original self-wrpps. (issue no. 1) and printed cardstock wrpps. (nos. 2-4). Some minor soiling to first issue, handling wear, very small split along central fold, and small closed tears to bottom margin, other numbers very good. Paris (Galerie Creuze/Galerie Zunini) 1962-1966.
An introduction to issues nos.
Each issue of Donner à voir corresponds to an exhibition of the state of contemporary art in Paris, with each section of the exhibition showcasing the selections of a particular art critic. The first three exhibitions were held at Galerie Creuze, from May 15 - June 8, 1962; December 1-22, 1962; and May 7-29, 1963. The fourth and final exhibition of this series was held at Galerie Zunini in Montparnasse, and paid homage to Paul Eluard. For this final exhibit, six critics organized mini exhibitions which were held in succession, for about two weeks each, from April 19 to July 13, 1966.
Some of the artists whose work was showcased included Gianni Bertini, Jean Filhos, Claude Georges, Jerzy Kujawski, K.R.A. Sonderborg, Jean-Pierre Vielfaure, Janine Beraud, Jean Berthier, Yves Dubois, Alberto Guzmán, Maria Lassnig, Jean Benoit, Robert Lagarde, Jacques Monory, Mimi Parent, Nasser Assar, Oswaldo Vigas, Batta Mihailovitch, Gérard, Deschamps, François Dufrene, Yves Klein, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Jean Tinguely, Daniel Spoerri, Chu Teh Chun, Jean Dupuy, René Duvillier, Piero Graziani, Marta Pan, Maurice Rey, Vicente Vela, Achille Perilli, Christo, Cy Twombly, Jan Voss, Wolf Vostell, Olivier Descamps, Lucio Fontana, Agustin Cardenas, Rauchenberg, Dubuffet, Herve Telemaque, and many others.
