Documenting the Czech Anti-Nazi Resistance

Nebylo marně žít a umírat [And not in vain did we live and die].

Prague: Vydala redakce Názorná agitace, Vydavatelství časopisů MNO, [1961]. Oblong quarto (14.8 × 20.4 cm). Original gray pictorial wrappers; [32] leaves of portraits and biographical text loosely inserted, as issued. Very good.

Scarce portfolio of short biographies and portraits of young Czech and Slovak men and women who died for the cause of Czechoslovak independence during the Protectorate. Issued on the forth-year anniversary of the founding of the Czech Communist Party. Among the heroes highlighted are: Stanislav Brunclík, Karol Černocký, Julius Fučík, Jožka Jabůrková, Edita Katzová, Kurt Konrad, Marie Kudeříková, Miloš Nedved, and many others. The publisher (Vydavatelství časopisů MNO) was founded in 1956 as a part of the political news arm of the Czechoslovak People's Army and the National Defense Ministry. The subtitle - Názorná agitace (visual propaganda) - suggests that this was part of a series, but we are unable to trace either this or related publications.

As of July 2021, not found in KVK or OCLC, nor at the Czech National Library.
