First edition of this monograph on two members of the Hovnatanian artist family, which included five generations of painters. The present work focuses on Naghash Hovnatan, a poet, artist, and ashug, and Hovnatan Hovnatanian, the eighteenth-century painter. The author, Arshak Chobanian (1872-1954) was an Armenian writer, journalist, translator, editor, critic, and scholar who did much to popularize Armenian culture in the West and particularly in France.
