Collection of Twenty-seven Cuban Artists' Books published by Ediciones Vigía.

Assortment of elaborate, unique, handmade artists' books incorporating original collage elements with typewritten, mimeographed, and other types of printed texts on a variety of paper stocks and weights, constructed from diverse materials including craft paper, watercolor, paint, yarn, raffia, twine lace, tissue paper, foil, and cloth, exemplifying the renowned Cuban bookmaking cooperative's lyrical and idiosyncratic productions, authors and artists represented include Hugo Araña, Ulises Rodríguez, Rolando Estévez, Arturo Arango, Carlos José García, Gastón Baquero, Juan Carlos Urría Fagundo, Julieta Burgos, Leonel Capote, Urbano Martínez CArmenate, Enrique Ramos Vargas, Patrice de la Tour Du Pin, Jesús del Castillo, Enrique Diaz-Guzmán, Teresita Fernández, Orlando García Lorenzo, Juan Luis Hernández Milián, Serafina Núñez, Dmitró Pavlichko, Antonio José Ponte, Omar Valiño, Gaudencio Rodríguez Santana, Raúl Ruiz, Marta Valdés, and others. Some light scattered foxing or soiling, overall very good. Sizes and bindings vary, most 4to. and 8vo. Matanzas, Cuba (Ediciones Vigía) 1988-2021. Most hand-numbered examples from limited editions of 100 or 200 copies each. Accompanied by a hand-collaged poster for the 5to Festival de las Ediciones Vigía, held at the end of April, 2020.

Araña, Hugo and Ulises Rodríguez. Séptimo Round/La Ventanas Tejida. Double-sided booklet containg two separate theatrical works, 15 and 20 pp. respectively, the overall volume having been the recipient of the Premio Virgilio Piñera de dramaturgia, Tricentenario de la Ciudad, edited by Gisela Baranda and designed and illustrated by Rolando Estévez. 8vo. Arango, Arturo. En la hoja de un árbol. 50 pp. booklet containing the text of a theatrical work, edited by Charo Guerra and designed and illustrated by Carlos José García. 4to. Original collaged paper wrappers over stiff cardboard, with cut paper embellishments. Some light foxing. Matanzas (Ediciones Vigía, Colección Trebol) 1994. Limited edition of 200 copies.

Baquero, Gastón. Nacimiento de Cristo. Sculptural artist's book containing the titular poem by Baquero, handwritten on cardstock cut in the shape of a dove, designed and illustrated by Rolando Estévez with collage and watercolor elements, including a cut paper infant Christ to the center beneath the dove's folding wings. 8vo. Original cut paper with watercolor, elastic, foil, and twine elements. Matanzas (Ediciones Vigía) 1999/2000. Limited edition of 200 copies.

Barquitos del San Juan, La Revista de los Niños. Año 11, Numero 21. A single issue of the magazine for children in the form of a galleon ship, 64 pp., edited by Agustina Ponce Valdés, Teresita Burgos, Laura Ruiz, Gladys Mederos, and Leticia Hernández, with design and drawings espeically for this issue by Juan Carlos Urría Fagundo and interior composition by Enrique Ramos, featuring poetry and prose by Lidiet Acosta, Ricardo Román Velazco, Jesús del Castillo, Tomás de Iriarte, Perla María Pindo, Aramís Quintero, and Isolina Bellas, a few watercolor and cut paper enhancements to interior. 4to. Original collaged paper wrappers, enhanced with cut paper, paint, yarn, fabric, watercolor, and handmade paper elements. Some slight edgewear. Matanzas (Ediciones Vigía, Colección Barquitos) 2001. Baudelaire, Hablar de Poesía. Unpaginated (circa 10 pp.) booklet containing "petits poemes en prose/pequeños poemas en prosa" in both French and English, the pieces selected and translated by René Suárez and accompanied by a brief introduction by him, edited by Alfredo Zaldívar Muõa. 8vo. Original collaged paper wrappers. Matanzas (Ediciones Vigía, Colección Clásicos) 1989. Limited edition of 100 copies. An early Vigía production.

Burgos, Julieta. Jugando al Oráculo. Single accordion-style folded shet comprised of two joined pieces of light blue and yellow paper, containing the text of a poem, edited and designed by Alfredo Zaldívar and with illustrations by Sigfredo Ariel. Sheet size 53 x 20 cm. Original collaged paper with embellishments of cut paper, watercolor, ribbon, and glitter. Some light soiling and wear. Matanzas (Ediciones Vigía, Colección del San Juan) 1996. Capote, Leonel. El Paisaje en la Pintura Matancera. Unpaginated (circa 10 pp.) catalog of the Exposicion Transitoria en Saludo al Tricentenario de la Ciudad de Matanzas at the Museo Provincial, held from April through June 1993, cover design and illustrations by Zenen Calero. 8vo. Carmenate, Urbano Martínez. Los Puentes Abiertos: Literatura matancera, 1813-1844. 96 pp. book of essays on the literature of Matanzas, edited by Alfredo Zaldívar and designed by Yohan Trujillo. 8vo. Original folding collaged paper wrappers with two overlapping flaps, one with a door cutout, with cut paper, string, watercolor, and dried flower embellishments. Some light chipping. Danzones: Antología de Músicos Matanceros Contemporáneos. 48 pp. booklet containing several examples of musical compositions, edited by Leticia Hernández Benítez and designed and illustrated by Enrique Ramos Vargas. Square 8vo. Original collaged paper wrappers with a black paper record decoration to front cover, sheet music, cut paper, and watercolor, housed inside original collaged cardboard slipcase. del Castillo, Jesús. Floripondín y Azucena. 36 pp. book containing the text of a theatrical work, edited by Gladys Mederos and with design and illustration by Ariel López. Narrow 4to. Original collaged paper wrappers with cut paper, fabric, yarn, and marker embellishments. Matanzas (Ediciones Vigía, Colección Aforos) 2000. Limited edition of 200 copies. Published for the 15th anniversary of Ediciones Vigía, reprinting a work which won the Premio Nacional José Jacinto Milanés in 1997.

Estévez, Rolando. Diseños de Estévez para Vigía: Exposición de los Más Representativos Diseños de Rolando Estévez para las Ediciones Vigía. Unpaginated booklet (approx. 18 pp.) consisting of a brief essay and several illustrations by Estévez, created for an exhibition at Casa de la Americas in Havana held May 22 through June 22, 1997, edited by Alfredo Zaldívar, with design and illustrations by Estévez. Michaux, Henri and Edmund Vandercammen. Dos Poetas Belgas y el Mar. Small 8-pp. booklet containing the texts of a single poem by each of the two poets, in French and Spanish, and a single paragraph of biographical detail, translated and designed by Enrique Diaz-Guzmán. 8vo. Milián, Juan Luis Hernández. Hechizo del Vigía. Elaborate construction, consisting of a single accordion-style folded sheet of paper with the text of the poem, affixed inside a cardstock portfolio with three different folding overlays with collaged elements including cut paper, watercolor, and lace, edited by Agustina Ponce, and with design, illustration, and calligraphy by Rolando Estévez. 8vo. La Mojiganga, Boletín de Títeres, Numero 10 (2001). A single issue of the magazine devoted to puppetry, 28 pp., directed by René Fernández and edited by Amarilys Ribot, Arneldy Cejas, and Fernández, with design and illustrations by Yohan E. Trujillo, representing a joint production by Ediciones Vigía and the Teatro Papalote, illustrated throughout with collaged elements and embellishments including watercolor and cut paper. Tall 4to.
