First edition thus of four humorous short stories by the popular Ukrainian Jewish writer Ostap Vyshnia (or Vishnia, real name Pavlo Hubenko, 1889-1956), whose feuilletons and short stories earned him the reputation of the father of modern Ukrainian satire. From 1933 to 1943 he was imprisoned as an "enemy of the people."
