This book by Ukrainian poet M. Eizler purports to be a transcription of an unpublished manuscript by a Russian prince and playwright, referred to only as “V”, and supposedly killed by the Bolshevik revolutionaries. The book, written in prose informed variously by the Russian Medieval odic tradition, the clipped speech of popular Soviet propaganda, and the novelistic prose style of the contemporary literary establishment, is a robust attack on the new Socialist order in Russia.
