Part one of this scarce anthology of Ukrainian verse published in Berlin. The editor, Bohdan Lepkyi (1872-1941) was a prominent Ukrainian writer, intellectual, artist and patriotic activist. He did not live in Berlin, but was active as a professor in Cracow's Jagiellonian University from 1899 to his death. Among the authors Bohdan included are key representatives of nineteenth-century Ukrainian poetry, such as Taras Shevchenko and Ivan Kotliarevskii, as well as folk songs and numerous lesser-known figures.
