Kiel: Buchdruckerei T. Omeltschenko & G. Tyschtchenko, 1949. Small octavo (14 × 9.6 cm). Original printed wrappers; 72 pp. A very good copy.
First edition of the third book of verse by the Ukrainian poet Pavlo Savchuk (1903-1969), writing using the pseudonym Bukovinets. Born in Western Ukraine, Savchuk fought in the Ukrainian Galician Army on behalf of the anti-Soviet Ukrainian National Republic (1917-1920). After WWII, he appears to have settled in the United States; little information seems to be available on his pre-war activities and his role among the Ukrainian Displaced Persons (DP) community in post-war Germany. The present book was published for the Ukrainian DP community in Northern Germany; most of the verse were written in the 1930s. Quite scarce, as typical for DP publications: KVK, OCLC show six copies, at the British Library, Harvard, LOC, NYPL, Indiana and Urbana-Champaign.
