Berlin: Ogon'ki, 1923. Large octavo (20 × 13 cm). Original pictorial wrappers by Aleksandr Arnshtam; 123, [2] pp. Very good; uncut and unopened copy; light soil to wrappers and spine only.

First and only edition of this novel by Potapenko, a writer, dancer, musical critic, and journalist about whom not much is known, though her works appear to have been popular with readers of the first wave of the Russian emigration. With an attractive cover design by Aleksandr Arnshtam (1880-1969), a Russian artist associated with the "World of Art" movement who designed many important books by Silver Age poets. In 1919, he was arrested and after serving a prison term emigrated to Berlin, where he worked for the Gelikon and Ogon'ki publishing houses before relocating to France in the 1930s.
