Very rare self-published textbook for Russians beginning to learn Chinese, authored by Ivan S. Skurlatov (1874-after 1937), a Russian-born Sinologist and scholar of Far Eastern linguistics and culture. After serving as finance minister under General Kolchak in 1918, Skurlatov settled in Manchuria, where he taught Chinese to employees of the Russian Far Eastern Railway (KVZhD) from 1924 to 1930. He lived in Harbin and Shanghai and is the author of numerous scholarly works on China, Chinese culture and speech, as well as other regional languages and dialects. Polansky 797.
