Paul Delvaux. Samizdat art documentation.
1965. [Brno]: A. B., 1965. Oblong folio (13 × 21.5 cm). Blue embossed cloth; [14] leaves of mimeographed typescript to rectos and [21] leaves of original photographic prints of Delvaux’s work, apparently taken from the original book publication. Very good; owner inscription to title.
Unrecorded surrealist samizdat created by Arnošt Budík, a founding member of the Brno-based post-war Czech surrealist group Lacoste (Skupina Lacoste). This copy is no. 1 of only four copies (only two were illustrated); it belonged to the artist and publisher himself. Meant to introduce the work of the Belgian surrealist painter to a small circle of Czech artists, the book reproduces Budík’s own translation of the French original essay, which was published in Anvers in 1948. Along with twenty-one reproductions of paintings by Delvaux, presumably photographed from the original book and thus accompanied by their own blurred aura of reproduction. Not located in KVK, OCLC.
