[Prague]: Svobodné slovo, 1968-1969. Small octavos (15 × 11 cm). Contemporary blind card wrappers; 204 and 292 pp. The second text with nine reproductions of original drawings, signed M. Novák. Text probably slightly resized to binding; else about very good.
First appearance of any work by Ian Fleming in Czech, in a translation by one “J. Bondy, agent 008” (Bondy is a common Czech surname). The work was published in installments by the journal Svobodné slovo (Free word). In 1969, the periodical also published Fleming’s Goldfinger in serialized form. An ephemeral work: the installments were often gathered and bound, and are here preserved in two contemporary functional card wrappers. Fleming could only be published during the brief Prague Spring of 1968, after which censorship rules were once again tightened well into the 1980s. Not found in KVK, OCLC.
