Two of three published volumes (nos. 1 and 3) of an art publication of the neo-avant-garde group and the eponymous gallery Permafo, formed by the Polish conceptual artists Natalia LL, Andrej Lachowicz, Zbigniew D ubak, and the art critic Antoni Dzieduszycki. The publication includes essays and theoretical texts by artists and critics such as Martin Krzysztan, Jerzy Roso owicz, and Alicja K pi ska. The journal also includes photographs of artworks in a variety of media including documentations of performances and straight-to-camera performances by Natalia LL and Andrzej Lachowicz. The gallery operated in Wroc aw 1970-1981 and in the course of its tenure exhibited leading European artists of the time including Bernd and Hill Becher, Joseph Beuys, Milan Grygar, Tibor Hajas, Joseph Kosuth, Dora Maurer, François Morellet, AR Pencka, Mimmo Paladino, Peter Stemela, Ben Vautier, and Ji i Valoch. In 1972-1980 the group also published “Permafo” journal, and the publication together with the gallery activities were instrumental to the development of conceptual art in Poland. The gallery was shut down after the introduction of martial law in 1981, when all Polish independent organizations not operated by the state were abruptly criminalized. In December 2012, the Wroclaw Contemporary Museum organized an exhibition dedicated to the group’s activity titled “Where is Permafo?” The Warsaw Museum of Modern Art holds this and many other Permafo publications.
